The Heathland restoration project is trying to promote the growth and spread of heather by using two methods.

The first was the complete removal of all vegetation and the removal of varying depths of leaf litter to try to find the ideal condition for heather seeds to germinate.

The second is to coppice all standing trees and just remove the bracken and brambles.
